We are looking for…

Join our Horley office as an Assistant Network Control Engineer and be a part of the Gas Control Team. We need individuals passionate about the energy industry and ready to make a difference.

We offer a starter role of Assistant Network Control Engineer for those new to gas transmission, with progression to a fully qualified Network Control Engineer (on full shift) over time when opportunities become available.

Starting on partial shift after training, you will assist in the day-to-day monitoring of both SGN local distribution zones and other commercial customers' systems.

How you’ll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm…

  • You will forecast gas demand to meet Uniform Network Code obligations, using several sources of data to formulate a demand value to submit to the gas shippers of the UK.
  • You will manage offtake flows and send flow notifications within commercial and physical limits.
  • You will perform a continual review and implement changes of operating strategies as demand/weather conditions change.
  • You will remotely monitor equipment, manage plant alarms, and undertake the necessary actions to maintain a safe and secure Network.
  • You will ensure specified target pressures and storage requirements are met through the continual monitoring of key data.
  • You will liaise with field engineers as they enter and leave sites while maintaining clear and precise logging of the movements and work details.
  • Maintain precise updates to handovers/fault reports and management information.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for a blend of skills and attributes that make you a great fit for this role. If you don’t tick every box, don’t worry – we provide tailored learning and development programs to help you grow and succeed with us.

  • Knowledge of the Gas Industry would be desirable.
  • Confidently make accurate decisions within tight timescales while maintaining high performance without manager referral.
  • You need strong organisational, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills to manage distribution systems and authorize complex operations.
  • You will work well in a team and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and customers, within and outside of the Gas Control Team.
  • Be positive and flexible in your approach to work and strive for excellent performance in the Gas Control Centre.
  • To meet our BCM requirements, candidates must reside within a one-hour travel distance from our Horley office.
  • A full valid driving licence is essential.

Why SGN?

SGN is at the forefront of pioneering research and development in the journey toward a net-zero energy system. Our cutting-edge technologies and innovative thinking are driving change in the gas industry, all while keeping people safe and warm. Join us in making a real difference—today and for the future.
