As our new Assistant Manager for Open Access Strategy, you will provide high-level support to the open access (OA) strategy team in managing, administering, analysing, and developing the Press’s OA and open research programme.

Duties will include:

  • Manage relationships with selected Read and Publish customers. Ensure the efficient application of their OA publishing accounts, particularly through good communication, improving workflows, and data management.
  • Support colleagues in the OA strategy team with management of wider Read and Publish accounts.
  • Provide problem-solving support and analysis for the OA strategy team.
  • Respond to external and internal queries and requests about the OA programme. Liaise with internal departments to resolve issues raised by authors and journal editors.
  • Provide accurate and clear data on the OA programme to assist with communications, reporting, OA policy decisions, and OA sales arrangements.
  • Gather market intelligence on OA and open research including monitoring competitor activity to help keep journals staff informed on industry developments and to inform OA and open research strategy.
  • Maintain and develop internal and external OA training and communication resources.
  • Support the continuous improvement of author and customer open access workflows, including through suggesting and implementing improvements. Document best practice.
  • Participate in and represent OUP at designated external publishing/industry groups and initiatives.
  • Attend appropriate conferences and industry events as appropriate and compile summary reports on those events to distribute internally.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

  • Publishing or transferable professional experience.
  • Understanding of open access, including business models, sales models, policy initiatives, and the opportunities, sensitivities, and challenges of open access models.
  • Understanding of journals publishing, including editorial processes, production processes, marketing, industry trends, systems, competitors, and technology.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse data effectively.

Please note this is a 6 month fixed term contract covering maternity leave, with the possibility of an extension.
