Job summary

Five Guys in Portsmouth is seeking an Assistant Manager to lead shift teams, uphold our standards for burgers and service, and support the General Manager in daily operations.

You will drive customer satisfaction, manage costs, and develop a high-energy team in a fast-paced, enjoyable workplace.

This role offers strong growth potential within Five Guys through leadership opportunities and a collaborative, values-driven culture.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of management experience in a high-volume hospitality or QSR environment.
• A track record of delivering excellent guest experiences and high Mystery Shopper scores.
• Experience assisting with P&L, labour costs and inventory/waste control.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team.
• Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene and safety standards.
• Flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead Shift Managers and Crew on the line and dining area.
• Support the General Manager in delivering perfect burgers & fries and store results.
• Create an engaging working environment aligned with Five Guys values.
• Address customer complaints promptly and honestly.
• Ensure smooth shift operations and contribute to long-term planning.
• Own your shift's P&L and drive sales while controlling costs.

AS AN ASSISTANT MANAGER, YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Our people - Shift Managers and Crew. Leading from the front and being hands-on, working on the line and on the dining area
• Supporting the General Manager in the delivery of perfect burgers & fries, store results and providing a "above & beyond" experience for your team and customers
• Creating an awesome working environment where people are happy to come to work and have fun while leading with our Values - Competitive, Enthusiastic, Family, Get It Done and Integrity
• Ensuring every customer is delighted with their order and their Five Guys experience - You will deal with complaints promptly in an open and honest way
• You will ensure that each shift runs as smoothly as possible and that our values form part of your shift management, thinking about long-term plans
• Having full ownership of your P&L, which means you will need to drive sales whilst controlling costs

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

• Experience:Ideally, you have at least1-2 years of management experiencein a similar role within a high-volume hospitalityorQSRenvironment. You know what it takes to run a busy shift and keep the energy high.
• Customer Satisfaction:You are obsessed with the guest experience and have the numbers to prove it. You havea track recordof driving customer satisfaction scores, increasing engagement, and consistently delivering excellent Mystery Shopper results and positive reviews.
• FinancialResponsibility:You have experienceassistingwith P&L management, controllinglabourcosts, and managing inventory/waste to hit profitability targets.
• LeadershipSkills:You have a proventrack recordof leading, coaching, and motivating a team. Youdon’tjust manage; you develop people andidentifyfuture talent.
• Operational Excellence:You have a solid understanding of Food Safety standards, Health & Safety regulations, andmaintaining5-star hygiene ratings.
• Flexibility:You are available to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
