Job summary

Halfords is recruiting for an Assistant Manager to work alongside the Centre Manager, combining hands-on workshop duties with customer-focused leadership. You will help drive profitability and enhance the customer journey in a fast-paced automotive service centre.

Ideal candidates will have strong mechanical knowledge, a Level 2/3 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification, and proven coaching and people-management experience.

Qualifications

• Must deliver high levels of customer satisfaction through effective management and leadership.
• Experience in coaching, training, and developing colleagues in the moment.
• Strong technical/mechanical knowledge with a Level 2/3 Light Vehicle Maintenance qualification (or equivalent).
• Solid understanding of workshop operations, diagnostics, and vehicle maintenance processes.
• Bring your own tools and put them to use in a busy workshop.
• Experience maintaining Health & Safety standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• IT proficient, with willingness to learn in-house systems.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Full, valid driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Support Centre Manager with daily sales and customer service.
• Lead workshop team to ensure efficient operation and quality service.
• Drive profitability through customer-focused initiatives and process improvements.
• Divide time between workshop activities and assisting the Centre Manager with front-of-house duties.

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll work alongside the Centre Manager to provide productive management and leadership, driving profitability, with firm focus on the customers journey. You will have had previous hands-on experience as a mechanic or management experience in a similar environment as you will be dividing your time between the workshop, working alongside the technicians, and assisting the Centre Manager with daily sales and customer service.

• On-target earnings up to £43,400
• Comprising a base salary of £34,000 - £36,000
• An uncapped monthly bonus scheme with average additional earnings of £7,400 per year.

What we’re looking for:
