Job title: Assistant Management Accountant

Responsible to: Finance Manager

Location: Sunderland GP Alliance Head Office, North East BIC

Salary: £34,180.00 per annum

Contract Type: 12 month Fixed Term

Hours: Full time, 37.5

Main duties of the job

The assistant accountant will provide support to the management accountants in the provision of timely and accurate financial information to all business stakeholders to allow informed decision making and to provide assurance throughout the organisation.

To assist in ensuring robust financial controls and processes are implemented and adhered to, therefore ensuring compliance and management of business risk.

Ensure, with the support of the accountants and finance manager, compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.

To support the business as part of the finance team to provide financial guidance and information to all managers and business areas.

Provide financial support and guidance in relation to financial requirements of PCNs.

Job responsibilities

Management Accounts

  • Maintain finance system daily, verifying accuracy of coding and project costing.
  • Verify and post journals as required.
  • Calculate and post income and expenditure accruals and prepayments.
  • Prepare quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and P&L analysis.
  • Prepare income reconciliation and analysis.
  • Recognize revenue in line with accounting standards.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly management accounts.

Budget and Forecast Process

  • Support accountants in preparing annual budgets and periodic forecasts.

Procurement

  • Identify and explore sustainable cost savings with business managers.
  • Review suppliers periodically and recommend contract renewals or alternatives.
  • Account for and reconcile NHS pension contributions for all schemes.

Property Costs

  • Verify costs and reimbursements in line with contractual agreements.
  • Prepare reports on financial performance of partly completed projects.

Other

  • Support, train, and mentor finance assistants as needed.
  • Support transactional processes in the absence of finance assistants.
  • Develop and implement robust financial processes and policies.
