This is a Full Time, Permanent position. The location of this role is Bristol, with hybrid working options (office and home-based).

What you will be doing

The role involves producing specialist advice and recommendations to the Government on whether to include historic buildings, archaeological sites, or landscapes on the National Heritage List for England (NHLE). This includes advice on listing buildings, scheduling monuments, and registering parks, gardens, and battlefields.

As Assistant Listing Adviser, you will assess applications for inclusion on the NHLE, providing timely and accurate advice to the Government. You will handle various assessments on responsive casework, public applications, Enhanced Advisory Services (EAS) cases, and strategic projects, adhering to targets and deadlines.

Who we are looking for
  • A good degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • An ability to recognize, analyze, and assess the significance of components of the historic environment
  • Knowledge of a specialist aspect such as architectural history, archaeology, or designed landscapes
  • The ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders
  • A full, clean driving licence
