Assistant Legal Counsel, Operations & Technology

About the Role:

S&P Global Commodity Insights (CI) is seeking a dynamic, commercially-minded, and technologically savvy lawyer to join its Legal Strategy & Operations team as an Assistant Legal Counsel based in EMEA. Reporting to the Head of Legal, Strategy & Operations, this role involves drafting commercial contract templates, legal project management, Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM), knowledge management, and legal training and support.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Draft, review, update, and proofread contract templates and documents; maintain the Contract Guidelines Table with the team's Assistant General Counsel.
  • Provide training to SPGCI's Legal and Business teams on legal templates.
  • Manage legal projects to ensure successful implementation.
  • Conduct legal research on emerging regulations and issues to support the Legal & Compliance team.
  • Manage legal tech systems like CIMO's CLM and eSignature, and Microsoft tools such as SharePoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Update the legal clause library in the CLM AI Tool; train and assist lawyers in its use.
  • Support the transition and maintenance of the CLM Tool with Legal Operations Specialists.
  • Maintain the accuracy of the CLM database and the SharePoint knowledge repository; prepare legal update newsletters.
  • Update and design legal training decks for use in training sessions.
  • Maintain an updated Product List for Commodity Insights.
  • Manage legal team mailboxes and other tasks as assigned by the Head of Legal, Strategy & Operations.

What We're Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Law degree.
  • 4+ years of legal experience, in-house or at a law firm.
  • Excellent legal drafting skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong legal knowledge and understanding.
  • Experience with CLM tools, contract management databases, and information management tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and AI tools.
  • Proactive mindset with logical thinking to provide practical solutions that protect S&P Global's interests.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Team-oriented with a focus on the best interests of the company and legal team.
