This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with Richard Looker in the Complex Injury Claims Team dealing with large loss claims. This role involves assisting Richard on complex, high value EL, PL and RTA multi-track claims. Experience of indemnity, liability and complex medical issues is required and excellent attention to detail essential. Your work will be supervised and feedback given. The role also includes the need to engage with sophisticated senior claims handlers in long-standing insurance clients. You may also be required to assist in activities which enhance and develop Keoghs’ profile and enhance your own career!
Key Responsibilities
The role involves working as part of a team to handle personal injury claims from start to finish. You'll collaborate with the Lead Lawyer to manage complex, high-value cases, communicate with insurer clients, and keep them updated. Your tasks include analysing large amounts of evidence, identifying key issues in medical records, and assessing liability evidence to find any gaps. You'll prepare technical advice on various aspects of the claims, such as liability, quantum, and strategy, and suggest next steps. The role also involves interviewing witnesses, drafting statements, pleadings, and applications, and instructing counsel for conferences, mediations, or court appearances. Additionally, you'll manage costs budgets with costs lawyers, ensure case information is up-to-date, and support the development of a paralegal team. Throughout, you'll ensure compliance with regulatory standards and deliver quality work within set targets.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to join our team handling complex personal injury claims. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing high-value cases, excellent communication skills, and strong analytical abilities. Key requirements include:
- Proven experience in personal injury claims management or a similar legal environment
- Ability to analyse large volumes of evidence and identify key issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting statements, pleadings, and technical advice
- Experience liaising with clients, witnesses, and legal professionals
- Ability to work proactively, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of court procedures, claims handling, and regulatory standards (such as SRA)
- Leadership skills to support and develop junior team members
- Competence in case management systems and cost budgeting
