Job description

Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools are currently recruiting for an Assistant Janitor to join the Estates and Facilities Department on a permanent basis. The position is available for an immediate start (subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks). The role is full time, working 46.875 hours. The successful candidate will work across all school sites including Inverleith.

We are seeking a proactive Assistant Janitor to ensure the safety, security, and smooth operation of our campus. Responsibilities include acting as Fire Officer, managing fire hazards, monitoring CCTV, assisting visitors, managing traffic, performing minor repairs, and maintaining cleanliness and outdoor areas. You will also support event setups, conduct PAT testing, and maintain school vehicles (minibus).

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and the ability to handle physical tasks. Desirable criteria include previous experience in a janitorial or caretaking role, cleaning experience, working in a school setting, manual handling training, and familiarity with security and fire systems. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.

Eligibility

ESMS is unable to sponsor the employment of international workers in this role. International applicants will therefore be unable to apply for and secure a Skilled Worker visa. The successful candidate will only be able to take up this role if they can demonstrate an alternative right to work in the UK.
