Job Description:

We are seeking a confident, adaptable, and solutions-focused Assistant Manager to join our dynamic HR Shared Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and is ready to take the next step in their career.

The role involves managing a significant caseload, acting as a key escalation point, and ensuring high-quality service across HR processes. You will support team leadership, including reporting, oversight, and decision-making during absences. This role is ideal for someone with strong operational HR knowledge, leadership skills, and a drive for continuous improvement in a shared services environment.

You will join an energetic team responsible for working with retail colleagues and managers in 750 stores nationwide, providing generalist HR telephone advice for a high-volume caseload.

The day-to-day role will:

  • Advise and support on all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including employee relations, employment law, contracts, disciplinary, grievances, sickness, absence, and performance management
  • Coach and develop a team of Shared Service Advisors, acting as an escalation point for complex or sensitive cases
  • Support the HR Shared Services Manager in overseeing daily operations, process improvements, and service excellence
  • Take on line management responsibilities during absences, including supervision, workload prioritization, and decision-making
  • Contribute to reporting, performance metrics, and audits to ensure compliance and transparency

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Experience in a high-volume HR shared services or operations environment
  • Experience in a commercial setting with a pragmatic approach to solutions
  • Updated knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, reactive environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and confidence with in-house tracking and reporting systems
  • A friendly, supportive, and empathetic approach, with the ability to challenge when necessary and make informed decisions
  • Leadership, coaching, or supporting experience, with readiness to lead when needed
  • Ability to identify and implement process and policy improvements
  • Knowledge of GDPR and Right to Work legislation
