Assistant Herd Manager
Calf Rearing / Assistant Herd Manager – Cambridgeshire - £36,000 + House
The Job:

We are recruiting for a Calf Unit Manager / Assistant Manager to join our client in Cambridgeshire. This is a hands-on, responsible position with scope for development, ideal for someone who has already worked in a couple of roles and is now ready to take more ownership.

You’ll be managing the rearing of approximately 400 calves per year, with 11 calves born in the past 4 days alone, and will be expected to hit the ground running. This is not an entry-level role – you’ll be working with minimal supervision, so we’re looking for someone capable, dependable, and confident in making decisions. The role includes involvement in robot milking systems and broader herd management tasks, in collaboration with a progressive and forward-thinking farming team using 8 milking robots.

This is one of two new hires being made – the other position will focus more on assistant herd management and robotic milking operations, while this position will primarily handle calf-rearing and youngstock management.

The Company:

This is a well-established and respected farming business operating within Cambridgeshire. The business prides itself on high welfare standards, efficient modern technology, and a supportive farm environment.

The Candidate:
  • Experience with calf rearing and youngstock management, ideally rearing 300–400+ calves per year
  • Held at least 1–2 previous roles on farms with increasing responsibility
  • Self-motivated attitude
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and take responsibility for their area
  • Holds a full UK driving license, essential due to the rural location
  • Confident, organized, and capable of making decisions independently
  • Some familiarity or interest in robotic milking systems; training provided as needed
The Package:
  • Salary: £35,000 – £36,000 depending on experience
  • 3-bed house on the farm
  • A genuine opportunity to take on more responsibility and shape the role
  • Supportive and forward-thinking working environment
