Due to long term employee progressing onto a new venture we are looking for an enthusiastic person who can step into the role of our Assistant Manager. Working alongside the manager and two herdsperson's, we all share the jobs and work together to get the daily routine done to a high standard.
We are looking for someone who is on time, reliable, cheery with a can do attitude and is very much a team player.
*The role*
The 2ic job is a diverse role filling in and keeping the farm ticking over on a day to day basis. See a problem...fix it!
It will also involve the core jobs of milking, scraping and feeding as needed. You will be given the responsibility of running the farm on a day to day basis in the absence of the manager. You will be expected to set a good example to the rest of the team in keeping the farm clean and tidy and displaying excellent livestock husbandry.
Regarding machinery we have new JCB 403 for scraping, a larger JCB telehandler for feeding and a 180hp tractor for the general jobs like bedding up, bale haulage etc. All large scale tractor jobs done by outside contractors currently. So yes there is some decent kit, but this role is not for tractor drivers, cows come first!
We work an 11 day on, 3 day off rota so every other Saturday/Sunday/Monday off, plus 28 days holiday and a very competitive salary for the right person.
A three bedroom house is available in the village which is a 5 minute drive from the farm so a driving licence is required. The house is free from rent and council tax but the applicant must pay all other bills. It has oil fired central heating, access to internet, the village has a local pub and village shop with just a 5 minute drive to the local town which has everything needed in it (supermarkets, restaurants, gyms etc etc.), Good schools near by also.
We are entering in to a period of expansion as we take on more land in Sept 2025, so this job will be ideally suited to someone with a proven record of block calving dairy farms or someone who has already cut their teeth as a Herdsperson looking to make the jump to 2ic. If your wanting to learn, I'm happy to teach!
We can give a flexible Start date, to start no later than mid September,
