Assistant Health + Safety Manager - ExCeL London

Salary: £35,000 per annum

ExCeL London, the home of world leading events, is experiencing significant growth and aims to become Europe’s largest connected convention centre with a new extension opening in Spring 2025, increasing capacity by 25%. To support this expansion, we are growing our hospitality team that delivers over 400 industry events annually. Our team includes managers, chefs, and waiting staff dedicated to providing excellent service.

Overall Purpose of the Role:

As the Assistant HSE Manager, you will ensure high standards of health, safety, and food safety compliance across all catering and retail areas. You will identify and manage risks, implement solutions to protect employees, guests, and stakeholders, and promote a strong safety culture. Your role involves training, guiding, and inspiring teams to deliver exceptional service while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable, and committed to continuous safety improvements.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure compliance with Health + Safety and Food Safety regulations, including Allergen Management.
  2. Lead the implementation and monitoring of H+S and Food Safety Policies.
  3. Develop and deliver training sessions for staff to meet legal and company standards.
  4. Coordinate H+S and food safety measures during events to ensure smooth operations.
  5. Stay updated on legislative changes and communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.
  6. Promote a positive H+S culture across the venue.
  7. Support operational teams in achieving their HSE objectives.

Candidate Requirements:
  • NEBOSH or IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Level 3 Food Hygiene or equivalent.
  • Experience in HSE or food safety roles, preferably in retail or hospitality.
  • Ability to develop and implement compliance policies.
  • Experience with compliance audits and improvement actions.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Positive attitude towards food and workplace safety.
  • Experience adapting policies to changing environments.
  • Hands-on management style, able to work weekends/evenings, and work well under pressure.
  • Assertive, calm, and team-oriented with a proactive attitude.
