Job summary

Key Talent Solutions in Cardiff is seeking an experienced Assistant Headteacher to join the Senior Leadership Team of an independent specialist school. The role focuses on day-to-day leadership, safeguarding, and driving inclusive practice for pupils aged 3–19 with complex needs.

Working with the Headteacher, you will shape strategic priorities, develop curriculum with therapists, and mentor staff to deliver high-quality teaching and pupil wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Experience leading in a specialist education setting.
• Proven ability to improve outcomes for pupils with complex needs.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and practice.
• Excellent communication with families, staff and external professionals.
• Experience working with pupils aged 3–19.
• Experience within Welsh educational context is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support the Headteacher in daily leadership and school management.
• Lead and develop teaching and support staff to high standards.
• Drive strategic priorities and school improvement plans.
• Collaborate with therapists and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure safeguarding policies are implemented effectively.
• Oversee pupil wellbeing and inclusion.
• Support recruitment, induction and performance management.
