Job summary

North Yorkshire Virtual School in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, is seeking an ambitious Assistant Head to provide strategic and operational leadership across core areas. You will work with the Virtual School Head and Assistant Head SENCO to drive progress, attendance and engagement for vulnerable learners.

You will promote high aspirations, strengthen partnerships with schools and agencies, and lead on SEND, trauma-informed practice, EHCP processes, and PEP governance.

Qualifications

• Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Leadership experience in education.
• Strong understanding of inclusion, safeguarding and outcomes for vulnerable learners.
• Knowledge of statutory responsibilities relating to children in care and vulnerable cohorts.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across the Virtual School's work.
• Lead initiatives to drive educational progress, improve attendance and engagement.
• Strengthen partnerships with schools, social care, health and other stakeholders.
• Oversee SEND, inclusion and trauma-informed practice; advise on EHCP processes.
• Audit and quality assure Personal Education Plans (PEPs) and educational provision.
• Deliver training and professional development to Headteachers, SENCOs and other professionals.
• Support vulnerable learners through transition points and periods of change.
• Develop bespoke educational packages for complex needs.
