Job description

Join Our Inclusive and Ambitious School Community

Are you an aspirational and dedicated leader with a passion for inclusive education? Do you have the expertise to drive outstanding SEND provision while supporting staff development and whole-school improvement? If so, we would love to hear from you!

At Wyndcliffe Primary School, we are looking for a committed Assistant Head Teacher – SEND Leader to take strategic responsibility for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision across our school, including the Resource Base (RB) provision for pupils who have ASC. This is a non-class-based leadership role, but will include some teaching responsibilities as required.

As a valued member of our Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will work closely with the Executive Head Teacher, Head of School, Deputy Head Teachers, Aspiring SENCO and specialist staff to ensure that every pupil, particularly those with additional needs, thrives in our supportive and inclusive learning environment.

About the role:

As Assistant Head Teacher – SEND Leader, you will:

  1. Lead and strategically develop SEND provision, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and pastoral care for all pupils with additional needs.
  2. Oversee the Resource Base (RB), ensuring that pupils with ASC receive specialist support and an inclusive, aspirational curriculum.
  3. Be the school’s SENCO, leading on EHCP processes, intervention strategies, and multi-agency working with external specialists such as Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologist.
  4. Provide high-quality training and professional development for staff on inclusive teaching strategies and SEND best practice.
  5. Be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school improvement and safeguarding as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).
  6. Work closely with parents and carers, fostering strong relationships to support pupil progress and well-being.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking an inspirational leader with:

  1. Proven experience in SEND leadership, including working as a SENCO or leading on inclusion in a primary setting.
  2. A track record of raising standards for pupils with SEND, including those with ASC and complex needs.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals.
  4. The ability to motivate and develop staff, ensuring a school-wide commitment to inclusive education.
  5. A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  6. A National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.

Why Join Us?

An exciting place to be:

  1. The school is very ambitious for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Learning is carefully adapted so that all pupils, including those in the specially resourced provision for pupils with SEND, learn the same curriculum (Ofsted September 2024).
  2. A supportive and welcoming school with a strong commitment to inclusion and excellence.
  3. An opportunity to lead and shape SEND and Resource Base provision, making a real impact on pupils' lives.
  4. A collaborative and experienced leadership team, committed to professional growth and school improvement.
  5. Excellent CPD opportunities, including leadership development and SEND-focused training.
  6. The chance to work in a forward-thinking Multi-Academy Trust, sharing best practice across schools.

If you share our vision for excellence, inclusion, and high expectations for all and would like to be part of our dynamic leadership team, we encourage you to apply.
