Assistant Head of Department - Sports & Uniformed Protective Services

£44,409 per annum, Permanent position - 37 hours per week, Cambridge

Meridian Business Support is currently recruiting for an Assistant Head of Department to work in a Cambridge based college.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of this job role is to assist the Head of Department in overseeing and enhancing the curriculum for Study Programmes and Adult courses. You will also manage staff and resources within the Sports & Uniformed Protective Services area at the college campus. Furthermore, you will contribute to improving student outcomes by upholding high performance standards, tracking progress, monitoring results, and motivating both staff and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the leadership and development of the curriculum area, including effective management of staff and resources.
  • Champion excellence in teaching, learning, and assessment across the department.
  • Monitor and drive student progress through effective tracking and support systems.
  • Inspire and support staff to achieve consistently high standards and positive student outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, inclusion, and high performance within the department.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A teaching qualification such as DET, DTLLS, Cert Ed, or PGCE.
  • Extensive teaching experience in a Further Education setting.
  • A strong understanding of the FE sector, with the ability to demonstrate relevant industry skills in sport or uniformed services.
  • Up-to-date Health & Safety knowledge relevant to the curriculum.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Essential Qualifications, Experience and Attributes
  • Must hold Level 5 or above teaching qualification such as DET, DTLLS or Cert Ed / PGCE
  • Must hold or working towards IQA Award or equivalent.
  • Extensive relevant experience working in an education/training provider.
  • Recent teaching experience in a further education setting
  • Evidence of professional updating & development
  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate relevant industry skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant Awarding Body requirements.
  • Current Health & Safety knowledge relevant to the role.
  • Good interpersonal, administrative and communication skills
  • Organised and able to meet deadlines.
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office and other software packages required to perform the role.
  • Ability to cultivate good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of staff.
