Qualifications

  • Knowledge of geotechnical discipline and interfacing disciplines.
  • Experience as a design engineer under supervision with deliverables.
  • Ability to produce quality engineering deliverables in line with standards and procedures.
  • Awareness of commercial and contract conditions related to budgets and timescales.
  • Proficient in engineering software, digital tools and data environments (CDEs).
  • Familiarity with ISO 19650 information management principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering deliverables including calculations, drawings, models, technical reports, specifications and documentation.
  • Support proposal development and provide technical input to bids and studies.

The role supports the delivery of engineering work for assigned projects, ensuring technical compliance, quality assurance, and safe-by-design outcomes. Working under the supervision of senior engineers, the Assistant Geotechnical Engineer undertakes defined tasks and work packages, contributing to engineering deliverables, small-scale project delivery, and the development of technical and professional capability.

Main Duties:
  • Produce engineering deliverables appropriate to the discipline and project stage, including calculations, drawings, models, technical reports, specifications, and associated documentation.
  • Support proposal development and provide technical input to bids, studies, and project delivery activities as required.
  • Apply appropriate engineering principles, methods, techniques, and tools in line with experience and competence.
  • Check and review own work before submission to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant standards, procedures, legal duties, and project requirements.
  • Support technical coordination and integration with other disciplines to help develop coordinated, multi-disciplinary design solutions.
  • Identify and communicate technical issues, assumptions, constraints, and risks to senior engineers or project managers in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to safe-by-design outcomes by applying health, safety, and risk management principles in engineering solutions.
  • Adapt to challenges and develop workable solutions that take account of quality, cost, programme, and safety.
  • Prepare clear technical and project-related correspondence and reporting.
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal and external parties to support project delivery and enhance the company’s reputation.

Profile:
  • Knowledge and experience within the geotechnical discipline, with awareness of the impact of other relevant or interfacing disciplines’ engineering design and detailing.
  • Experience of working as a design engineer under supervision, with responsibility for deliverables within a work package / project.
  • Experience in producing quality engineering deliverables in line with relevant standards, procedures, and best practice.
  • Awareness of commercial and contract conditions as they relate to budgets, programmes, and timescales.
  • Proficient in relevant engineering software, digital tools, modelling applications, and project Common Data Environments (CDEs).
  • Awareness of digital information management principles and experience of project-based CDEs, including understanding of ISO 19650 principles where applicable.
  • Ability to identify key facts in straightforward data, evaluate sources, and draw basic conclusions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills appropriate to project delivery and technical coordination.
  • Graduate registration with a relevant professional body / engineering institute and working towards professional qualification (e.g. EngTech, IEng, or CEng, as applicable).
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant to own discipline.
