Halmer Recruit is seeking an Experienced Assistant Gardener in Enfield to maintain high-standard gardens across residential estates and premium developments in North London. You’ll work in a two-person team, focusing on horticultural care rather than only mowing, with an early start and on-site hours from 8:00 to 16:00.
The role offers development toward a Team Leader position, a competitive salary (£28,000–£29,000 per year) and a permanent, full-time contract.
We are recruiting for an Experienced Assistant Gardener to join an established landscaping and garden maintenance business based in Enfield.
You'll work predominantly across residential estates and high-quality developments in North London, including sites around Hampstead and Highgate, alongside some private gardens, schools and general grounds maintenance contracts.
This is a role for someone who enjoys the horticultural side of garden maintenance.
Good plant knowledge is important, as you'll be caring for established planting and landscaped areas rather than focusing solely on mowing, hedge cutting and general grounds maintenance.
You'll usually work as part of a two-person team, with many sites allowing the team to spend a full day carrying out detailed maintenance.
Ideally, you'll already have around 2-3 years' relevant experience, although applications are also welcomed from more recently qualified gardeners who have developed good practical skills and plant knowledge.
There is also the opportunity to progress into a Team Leader position as you develop within the business.
We're looking for someone with good practical gardening experience and genuine plant knowledge who can contribute to the team from the outset.
Ideally, you'll have:
A horticultural qualification would be beneficial but isn't essential. Candidates who have developed their knowledge through practical experience will also be considered, as will more recently qualified gardeners with a strong practical foundation.
A driving licence is advantageous but not essential, as you will not be expected to drive the company van.
The role is based in Enfield, with the usual arrangement being to meet at the company's yard at approximately 7.00am before travelling to the day's sites.
The team generally works on site from 8.00am to 4.00pm, followed by the return journey to Enfield. The company generally does not work overtime, offering a consistent working pattern.
There may occasionally be some flexibility to travel directly to or from a site depending on where you live and the location of the day's work.
An enhanced DBS check may be required for work on school sites and can be arranged by the company.
