Atkins Building Design Practice are looking to appoint an Assistant Fire Engineer who is looking to further develop their career within a forward-thinking multi-sector practice. This opportunity involves working as part of a national team of design professionals delivering fire engineering solutions across sectors such as Cities & Development, Commercial, Energy, Residential, and Transportation.

There is flexibility regarding the location of the role. Although most of our current Fire Engineering team are based in Derby and London, we aim to expand teams in the North and South West. Preferred UK locations include Bristol, Epsom, London, or Derby.

As a Fire Engineer, you will manage your projects while collaborating with team members to develop technical capabilities.

Responsibilities:

• Work across various sectors, from residential to rail transportation and energy facilities.
• Manage projects from inception to delivery, ensuring compliance with fire safety standards.
• Support project delivery within budget and timelines.
• Stay updated with relevant regulations and legislation.
• Develop fire safety strategies.
• Conduct site visits.
• Assess fire risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
• Review fire safety installations for quality assurance.
• Prepare tenders and proposals for new projects.
• Produce reports, participate in team meetings, and liaise with clients.

Requirements:

• Degree in engineering, preferably fire engineering, or postgraduate qualification in the field. Candidates with different backgrounds are also considered.
• Experience with fire standards such as BS9999, NFPA 130, BS9992, EN45545 is advantageous.
• Fire modelling experience is beneficial.
• Experience outside the building sector is a plus.
• Willingness to pursue chartered fire engineer status.
• Flexible working approach.
• Willing to travel.
• Good report writing and information collation skills.
