Job description

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Finance team in the position of Assistant Financial Accountant based at our Northampton Head Office.

To support the Financial Accounting function by handling daily accounting tasks, ensuring accurate financial records, processing transactions, performing reconciliations, and assisting with the upkeep of a robust controls environment. There will be opportunities to be involved in process and system improvement and an inquisitive and challenging attitude will be encouraged.

There will be a requirement for travel to operational sites to conduct regular asset verification audits. This assistant level role will provide a good grounding in Financial Reporting and Accounting.

Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
  • Fixed Assets: Prepare and process monthly and annual fixed asset related journals and fixed asset register reconciliations
  • Conduct regular physical counts of assets to ensure accuracy, at Forterra's operating sites.
  • Budgeting and forecasting for Capital expenditure values and depreciation charges
  • Lease Accounting (IFRS16): Prepare and process monthly and annual lease-related journals and account reconciliations
  • Budgeting and forecasting for lease-related expenses and R-O-U Asset/Lease Liability values
  • Variance analysis for both month end & balance sheet accounts, this will also require the role to liaise with site personnel & management from around the business
  • Support with other financial accounting topics, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, and posting/ processing journals
  • Assisting in preparing financial reports, statements and summaries
  • Aiding in external audits at half year and full year reporting
  • Support in the monitoring of internal control systems
  • Track and report on company adherence to internal policies and procedures
  • Participate in process improvements projects
  • Assisting with daily/weekly and ad hoc reporting
  • To build effective working relationships with the wider Finance team and relevant business stakeholders
  • Any other ad hoc tasks or project work that is deemed appropriate for the role
