Job description

Role: Assistant Finance Business Partner - HRA

Location: Home Counties, London - Remote working

Duration: 8 months minimum

Day rate: (Apply online only) per day (inside IR35)

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Finance Business Partner with expertise in the public sector, based in London and the Home Counties, on an interim basis. The role involves supporting the organisation through a period of change within a specific business area. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of issues affecting Local Government finance and experience in relevant management competencies. You will work closely with the Senior Finance Business Partner for HRA and Regeneration throughout the contract.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Finance Business Partner:
  • Manage the provision of effective financial services within a department, contributing to management in line with the Business Plan, Scheme of Management, and Financial Scheme of Delegation.
  • Provide expert financial advice and support to the council/department, committees, members, and senior management, including responses to government initiatives.
  • Assist in presenting accurate financial information to council departments and external partners as needed.
  • Support the implementation and compliance with the council's regulatory framework and advise senior management on departmental changes.
  • Ensure the integrity of financial information and assist in the production of statutory accounts.
  • Support the Senior Finance Business Partner in delivering financial services, managing third-party suppliers, and improving value for money.
  • Maintain sound financial management systems and procedures aligned with the council's values and vision.
  • Promote and implement risk management and anti-fraud strategies to safeguard assets.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help set targets for the finance functions under your control.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Qualified Accountant (CA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with post-qualification experience in a similar role (PQ candidates considered).
  • Recent experience in the Local Authority sector.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and attention to detail skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Pro-active, self-starting attitude with initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Experience in stakeholder management on complex or sensitive programmes, with credibility among peers and leaders.
