Job description

Nutmeg, which is part of the Morrison’s group, is a family lifestyle brand that launched in 2013 and is now sold in all of our Morrisons stores and online. Nutmeg’s aim is to offer our customers great value products to love, live and feel good in. All of our products are affordable, thoughtful, great quality and are designed to work better for people’s lives. We are looking for an Assistant Fashion Designer to join our Design Team at Nutmeg Clothing's head office in Coalville.

What will I do as an Assistant Designer at Nutmeg?
  • Support Senior Designer and Designer in the design and development of cohesive, trend appropriate ranges across Boys and Menswear clothing.
  • Input into Trend Direction by collating and presenting research and inspiration per season, and by regularly creating and maintaining moodboards for the department.
  • Create and maintain seasonal colour palettes.
  • Complete garment tech packs, and manage multiple deadlines to ensure timely delivery of the seasonal collections.
  • Work with the Senior Designer and Designer to support, coach and develop new assistants designers and work placement students.
  • Potential travel opportunities, to build supplier relationships as well as inspirational shopping.
  • Support the design team in preparing for design meetings as well as being able to present to the leadership team and wider teams, talking through key shapes, colours and trend directions.
About you

What skills and experience do I need to be a success in this role?

  • Fashion design qualification.
  • Eye for detail and passionate about product.
  • Reliable team player with a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Great time management and organisation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Fashion/garment design experience is preferred however not essential.
  • Communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate good customer awareness.
  • Proficient in Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Previous experience with a clothing retailer or supplier is preferred however not essential.

Nutmeg has been trading for 11 years and has grown from a Children’s clothing retailer to doing Womenswear and most recently Menswear. The Nutmeg team focuses on listening to our customers to put the best ranges in stores based on trends, seasonality, store demographic and event calendars, and the merchandising team plays a key role in all of these decision making processes. You will work on a team of 8 people including Merchandising, Buying and Design to develop and land several ranges a season. The environment is fast paced with a focus on getting results quickly that inspires our customers to keep on coming back to us.
