Job summary

Avara Foods in Woolhope is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager to lead day-to-day operations on our laying site. This hands-on role prioritises bird welfare, biosecurity and compliance with approved farm standards.

You will supervise staff and contractors, keep accurate records, and report to the Farm Manager. Owning transport is essential for visiting other sites; training will be provided to develop qualifications.

Qualifications

• NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Poultry Production or similar agriculture qualification desirable.
• Own transport is essential as travel to other sites may be required.
• Experience with poultry or livestock is preferred.
• Excellent communication and people skills.
• Willingness to learn and work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Maintain optimum environmental conditions for bird welfare and biosecurity.
• Ensure site maintenance and company standards are consistently met.
• Supervise staff and third parties, ensuring Health & Safety compliance.
• Comply with all legislative and assurance scheme standards.
• Maintain accurate records as required by Avara Foods and UK legislation.
• Operate the farm within cost-effective parameters.
• Cover for the Farm Manager when required.
• Work across other farm sites as needed.
• Report directly to the Farm Manager.

Hours Of Work

07:30 - 16:00, Average of 5 days out of 7 across 14 days

What We’re Looking For

• Own transport is essential, as travel to other sites may be required
• Previous livestock experience (not necessarily poultry), with strong stockmanship skills
• NVQ/Diploma Level 3 in Poultry Production or similar agriculture qualification desirable (training will be provided)
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Willingness to learn and strong self-motivation
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and carry out manual duties
• Basic IT skills
