Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Portering Supervisor to lead the Portering team across St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. You will supervise Portering Supervisors and staff, on the shop floor, and ensure adherence to policies and training.

The role focuses on maintaining service quality, managing performance, implementing HR policies, and promoting strong industrial relations while supporting infection control and patient flow.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a portering or estates/Facilities team in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to implement and monitor compliance with policies and procedures.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to drive performance on the ground.

Responsibilities

• Manage Portering services across St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.
• Supervise Portering Supervisors and staff, and monitor day-to-day performance.
• Ensure mandatory training is completed and best practices followed.
• Implement HR policies (sickness, capability, recruitment) and promote good industrial relations.
• Collaborate with Facilities colleagues to improve service delivery and patient flow.

day to day basis manage the performance and effectiveness of their supervisors and Portering staff. To give on the spot advice in practices, procedures and performance of their Portering Supervisors and staff. To spend a significant amount of time 'on the shop floor' so having a good understanding on what is happening on that shift. To build relationships with all levels of staff within each functional area. To assist in the implementation of all the operational administrative systems that have been directed by the agreed Portering strategy. To monitor the performance on a day to day basis of all aspects of the Portering function and deal with any substandard performance. To ensure that all staff receive mandatory training with annual refresher, and that "best practices"/protocols are implemented, followed and adhered to at all times. To ensure that all trust agreed infection control policies, practices and procedures are adhered to. To ensure that the service provision remains within
financial and weekly paid hours targets. To implement any of the Human Resources policies e.g. sickness, capability, grievances, recruitment etc. To promote excellent industrial relations within the team and support other colleagues within Facilities. What you will bring to the role The post holder will be a member of the Facilities Portering Team and support wider services within Facilities such as Patient Environment. They will be responsible for carrying out any duties commensurate with the grade of post. The role includes the effective management of the Portering services across St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. This entails the management of Supervisors and staff and ensuring that all Trust polices and procedures are adhered to. The successful candidate will be asked to implement innovative ways to improve the service and support the Trust's commitments with the reduction of patient wait times. The role requires flexibility in approach to the duties required and the hours worked. The post holder will be expected to have a successful track record in managing a large
