Job description

Responsible for supporting ethics and compliance risk management across the SCS JV, the Assistant Ethics and Compliance Officer will be an ambassador for ethics across the project. They will identify ethics-related risks and help devise workable, cost-effective strategies for managing them. The role involves building effective relationships with internal clients and external providers, delivering value for the project and the UK taxpayer.

About the role

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop a broad compliance skillset within a challenging joint venture delivering a fast-paced mega-project. Reporting to the Deputy Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Assistant will work closely with the Ethics and Compliance Officer as part of the Legal, Ethics and Compliance Team. The position is full-time.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Screening reports from the SCS Observation App and directing them appropriately.
  2. Assessing and investigating ethics and compliance referrals, recommending approaches for approval.
  3. Writing formal investigation reports.
  4. Supporting the Deputy and Ethics and Compliance Officers daily.
  5. Supporting bribery and fraud risk assessments.
  6. Managing the SCS Gifts and Hospitality register, providing guidance to staff.
  7. Managing the Conflicts of Interest register in line with policy.
  8. Contributing to monthly and annual ethics and compliance reporting.
  9. Assisting with policy management plans.
  10. Supporting training delivery and raising awareness of ethical risks.

The role involves working with external providers, supporting diversity and inclusion, and engaging with key stakeholders. Candidates should have investigative experience, strong communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Personal qualities include integrity, confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism. The role offers flexible working and opportunities for personal and professional development.

The office is located near London's Euston Station, with the role working on the HS2 project, a major high-speed rail network connecting key UK cities. The project scope includes tunnels, bridges, earthworks, and site construction.
