Job description

Assistant Educational Psychologist

Fixed term contract to 31st August 2026.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Educational Psychologist to join the EPS in Neath Port Talbot Council. The role involves supporting learners through a needs-led approach under the framework of the ALNET Act 2018, empowering children, young people, parents, carers, and schools to understand and build on individual learning profiles within an inclusive society.

You will work alongside educational psychologists to develop and implement intervention strategies, create accessible resources, and deliver training and workshops. A key aspect involves collecting and analyzing data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and advocating for CYP needs. You will collaborate with other professionals to help schools implement person-centred approaches tailored to individual needs.

Requirements include:

  • A BPS-accredited degree in psychology (or equivalent) with a strong commitment to pursuing a career as an educational psychologist, including plans to apply for doctoral training.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with experience working with CYP in educational or clinical settings.
  • Familiarity with inclusive education practices and the ALNET Act.
  • Empathy, sensitivity, and collaborative skills in working with CYP, families, and colleagues across sectors.

Preferred experience includes:

  • Working with CYP in educational or clinical settings.
  • Developing psychological advice and support.
  • Multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Understanding neurodiversity and inclusive education practices.
  • Knowledge of the ALNET Act and evidence-based interventions.
  • Innovative practices enhancing inclusion for CYP.
