Salary : £51,700 - £61,467 per annum depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract : Fixed Term Contract / Attachment - Part Time 17.5 hrs per week
This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. Job Purpose
BBC News NI is seeking to recruit a part time (0.5 ET) Assistant Editor for 12 months. In the first instance the successful candidate will work on radio current affairs output. This is a key leadership role in the Belfast newsroom. The successful candidate will lead teams producing the Talkback programme and will play a key part in shaping our news output for the future.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The Assistant Editor will:
• Deliver programmes to the highest editorial standards.
• Challenge and encourage their teams to produce new ideas, fresh treatments and imaginative programmes.
• Provide constructive performance feedback to team members.
• Fully understand the broadcast and production technologies in use in the Belfast newsroom, in particular for those used for radio.
• Become part of the wider management team in the newsroom.
• Work flexibly across the output as required.
• Help drive BBC News NI's Social Media offering and effectively use cross-promotional opportunities on all output.
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
Substantial radio journalism production experience.
A proven track record of sound news judgement. Ability to deal with complex editorial issues in a pressurised environment.
A proven ability to produce original journalism and treatments.
A thorough understanding the politics and current affairs of Northern Ireland along with a keen interest in current affairs across these islands.
Evidence of the ability to manage and lead teams of staff, providing regular feedback and playing a key role in developing talent.
