Job summary

Penguin Random House Children's is seeking an Assistant Editor to join our new imprint in London, supporting its day‑to‑day running and development.

You’ll manage editorial workflows from acquisition to publication, read submissions, contribute ideas for books and series, and collaborate with authors, illustrators and agents. You’ll work closely with teams across design, production, sales, marketing and rights, in a collaborative, startup‑minded environment.

Qualifications

• Passion for children’s publishing with an understanding of audience and market.
• Two years publishing experience in editorial is desirable.
• Creative, curious, and tuned into our audience’s interests.
• Highly organised with attention to detail and multiple deadline juggling.
• Editorially minded with love of stories and language.
• Reader-focused, thinking about who the book is for and how readers choose it.
• Collaborative and flexible, adapting as priorities evolve.
• Confident and proactive in asking questions and following up.
• Open-minded and a good problem solver.

Responsibilities

• Managing editorial schedules and critical paths to keep books on track.
• Providing editorial support including proofreading and second-eye checks.
• Working with authors, illustrators and agents with thoughtful stakeholder care.
• Writing and editing copy, metadata, presentations and publishing materials.
• Attending meetings and communicating project status clearly with partners.
• Collaborating with design, production, sales, marketing, publicity and rights.
• Reading submissions and contributing to editorial discussions.
• Contributing ideas for books, series, IP, packaging and reader engagement.
