Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Edinburgh is seeking an Assistant Ecologist to join a well-established environmental consultancy. You will assist with ecological surveys, technical assessments and reporting while gaining exposure to protected species, Biodiversity Net Gain, habitat creation and ecological mitigation.

The role offers flexible and hybrid working arrangements, structured training and ongoing CPD, and opportunities for professional development and progression within a collaborative

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science or a closely related subject.
• Previous consultancy or practical ecological experience.
• Understanding of UK habitats, protected species and environmental legislation.
• Knowledge of PEA, EcIA or BNG would be advantageous.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Full right to work in the UK.
• Based in Edinburgh or within a reasonable commuting distance.
• Flexibility to travel to sites when required.

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an Assistant Ecologist to join a well-established environmental consultancy in Edinburgh. The business works across a range of environmental disciplines, including ecology, arboriculture, landscape design and natural capital, providing specialist advice on development and land management projects.

This position would suit an early-career ecologist looking to build their consultancy experience within a supportive and multidisciplinary environment. You will assist with ecological surveys, technical assessments and reporting, while gaining exposure to protected species, Biodiversity Net Gain, habitat creation and ecological mitigation. You will also work closely with professionals from other environmental disciplines.
