Job summary

SSEN Transmission, part of SSE, seeks an Assistant Consents and Environment Manager (Operations) to support the network in Scotland, ensuring environmental requirements are integrated into asset management and lifecycle planning.

You will work with the Consents and Environment team, implement monitoring regimes, advise on regulatory compliance, and build strong relationships with stakeholders, including statutory authorities, to enable Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and consenting regimes.
  • Proven project management skills including consenting oversight and risk management.
  • Degree in environmental discipline, ideally with postgraduate qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Support operational teams in maintaining the network while ensuring consenting and environmental requirements are integrated into asset management.
  • Collaborate with the Consents and Environment team to understand planning conditions early for handover.
  • Implement monitoring regimes and provide advice to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders including operational teams, project teams and statutory authorities.

Job description

At SSEN Transmission, we are leading the UK’s transition to net zero by developing and delivering major, large-scale terrestrial transmission infrastructure. As an Assistant Consents and Environment Manager (Operations), you will join our team and play an essential role in enabling Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions, supporting our Networks team to maintain our assets through their operational life cycle.

You will
  • Support operational teams in maintaining the network, ensuring all consenting and environmental requirements are identified, understood, and integrated into asset management systems.
  • Collaborate with the wider Consents and Environment team to ensure that all enduring planning conditions are fully understood at an early stage to facilitate effective project handover.
  • Implement proportionate monitoring regimes and provide advice to Operational teams where necessary, to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including operational teams, project teams and statutory authorities.
You have
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and consenting regimes, alongside relevant work experience.
  • Proven project management skills, including consenting oversight, environmental compliance, consultant management, cost control, risk management, quality oversight, and programme coordination.
  • A degree (or equivalent) in an environmental discipline, ideally complemented by a postgraduate qualification, with experience gained in sectors such as infrastructure, statutory bodies, or consultancy.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to embrace challenges and opportunities within a changing environment.
