AtkinsRéalis provides drainage design services to Highway, Rail, Private Developer, Energy and Water markets with key clients including HS2, Highways England, and Network Rail. Due to growing workload, we are looking to strengthen our teams.

We require Senior Drainage Engineers to join our teams across the UK. Candidates should be strong collaborators, capable of supporting local teams and delivering remote projects as part of our national Practice.

You will play a key role in designing drainage infrastructure, transportation, and private developer projects, focusing on highway drainage and development drainage including SuDS. You will also support the leadership and development of our drainage capability.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading drainage design from concept to detailed design and construction, either standalone or as part of larger schemes.
  • Promoting digital solutions in drainage design, including BIM integration.
  • Reviewing drainage designs, models, calculations, and drawings to standards and providing technical assurance.
  • Managing design tasks, delivery, budgets, and timelines.
  • Mentoring graduates and technicians in drainage.
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships and supporting local drainage capability development.
  • Leading drainage designs and providing technical assurance for designs from our Global Design Centre.
  • Championing drainage in multidisciplinary projects.
  • Mentoring and supporting engineers, graduates, and technicians.
  • Contributing to bid preparations, including technical responses and fee proposals.

Requirements:

  • Professional qualification with ICE, CIWEM, or similar.
  • Ability to design all drainage aspects from conceptual to detailed design.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic design software, 3D tools, and BIM.
  • Experience in report writing, specifications, and data collection.
  • Client-focused with the ability to respond to market sector values.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams, leading work packages.
  • Strong project scope, budget, and quality management skills.
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, proactive, and deadline-driven.
  • Mentoring skills and leadership qualities.
  • Experience with private and public sector clients, understanding management and procurement approaches.
