Job Description

This role involves working at the interface between life science companies and Government/public sector agencies, contributing to the UK's position as a leading destination for clinical research. The successful candidate will support strategic partnerships with innovative life science companies as part of the NIHR External Affairs team.

About the Role

You will collaborate with the NIHR Director of External Affairs & Strategic Partnerships to develop and manage relationships with high-value life science companies, ensuring a coordinated approach across government and public sector agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the main contact for strategic partner companies within NIHR.
  • Brief senior staff on partnership activities before high-level meetings.
  • Coordinate responses to partner inquiries across NIHR and UK government organizations.
  • Work with Business Development and Key Account Managers to promote NIHR services.
  • Collaborate with the Vaccine Innovation Pathway Programme to improve vaccine trial delivery.
  • Coordinate interactions with other government agencies for partnership delivery.
Qualifications

Candidate Specification

Applicants should have experience working with or within the life sciences industry, a good understanding of the UK health research system, and excellent stakeholder engagement skills. Strong project management and the ability to work under pressure are essential.

Expertise, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the life sciences industry, including business development or government affairs roles.
  • Experience within the UK research sector.
  • Understanding of the UK health research landscape and NIHR processes.
  • Proven ability to manage complex programs involving multiple stakeholders.
Desired Criteria
  • Postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in research funding organizations or policy bodies.

  • Proactive, adaptable, and team-oriented.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in IT tools including Google Apps.
