Job Overview

The College is seeking to appoint a talented, well-qualified, and inspirational musician and teacher who can communicate a passion and enthusiasm for Music beyond the classroom.

The successful candidate will enhance the department's reputation by supporting diverse opportunities for students to engage in the school's musical life. They will be a key part of the co-curricular music program, leading and directing various groups, and assisting the Director of Music in planning and delivering the program. They will also play a vital role in nurturing the talents of Scholars and top musicians, preparing high-quality public performances.

There may be an opportunity to take on responsibility for academic music for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities of the Post-holder

  • Assist the Director of Music in planning and delivering a rich co-curricular music program.
  • Nurture students’ talents through inspiring coaching and teaching.
  • Direct college ensembles aligned with the candidate’s expertise.
  • Assist in delivering the scholarship program, mentoring scholars, and monitoring progress.
  • Teach a reduced timetable of academic Music.
  • Report regularly to the Director of Music on student progress and suggest opportunities for development.
This role is dynamic and may evolve with the College’s strategic and academic developments.

As a teacher
  • Contribute to teaching Years 7-13, adapting lessons to meet student needs and collaborating with the Academic Support Department.
  • Manage assessment, recording, and reporting for students.
  • Assess student work regularly to inform future planning and development.
  • Prepare and present reports to parents and participate in parent evenings.
  • Share resources, observe lessons, mentor colleagues, and engage in professional development.
  • Encourage independent learning and set high expectations.
  • Manage classroom behavior positively, fostering a safe and respectful environment.
  • Participate actively in co-curricular activities, including support sessions, competitions, trips, and events.
  • Contribute to the wider co-curricular program as requested.
  • Work as a tutor in a boarding or day house if needed.
  • Follow all College policies and undertake additional tasks as directed.
The College may amend duties as needed to meet institutional requirements.
