Description

Summary

The Assistant Director of Academic Advising is a full-time staff position within the Office of Academic Advising, supporting the Director of Academic Advising and the division of Student Affairs of the university. Specifically, this position will work with the students from the Associate Degree of Nursing program. The Assistant Director will support everyday operations of the office and will follow all policies and procedures outlined by the Director and the department. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 11-month position.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for the Associate Degree of Nursing program and is expected to meet with each student to discuss academic plans.
  • Support all undergraduate students in transition from changing majors for various reasons.
  • Work in partnership with specific functional areas with regard to the student experience including undergraduate admission, the registrar’s office, new student orientation, and nursing faculty for a seamless transition.
  • Collaborate with faculty of the Associate Degree of Nursing program to ensure appropriate knowledge of the advising structure and apply necessary changes.
  • Serve as a member of the institution’s Case Management team.
  • Coordinate programming specific for assigned students, focusing on their adjustment to Regis.
  • Be available to meet with students formally and informally to answer their questions, sign off on forms, and provide general academic guidance in consideration of their educational goals.
  • Proactively outreaches to and meets with students at key times for continuous needs assessment and connection to appropriate resources.
  • Work in tandem with the Student Support Coach assigned to the Associate Degree of Nursing students to ensure seamless communication and support of students.
  • Document interactions with students as appropriate using the Starfish Retention platform.
  • Use data driven strategies to inform future academic advising practices.
  • Participate in college-wide events as appropriate, including Open Houses, Admitted Students Days, Commencement, and Orientation.
  • Assist in the development and execution of the Majors and Minors Fair each spring semester.
  • Aid in the coordination summer Advising and Course Selection process
  • Assist the director in updating processes in undergraduate academic advising.
  • Engage in relevant professional development opportunities offered by NACADA, Regis, and other organizations.
  • Perform other related tasks as required by the Director of Academic Advising.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • MA/MS degree in education, counseling, psychology or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with adult learners a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in helping students in higher education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven experience in organizing and managing projects and people.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population of colleagues and students.
  • A positive attitude, flexibility, and open-mindedness.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare quality written work.
  • Ability to manage time effectively while balancing multiple tasks and maintaining meticulous attention to detail.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Normal office environment, not subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
  • Must be able to operate basic computer equipment, like using a mouse, keyboard, and webcam.
  • Hours are non-traditional as the position supports students in day and evening cohorts.
  • Most time in the position is spent in a normal office setting.
