Job Description:

General Description of Position Under the supervision of the Adult Education Director, the Adult Education/ESL Assistant Director manages the ESL program. Responsibilities include building and staffing schedules, onboarding students, hiring and evaluating instructors, professional development, curriculum development, student intake, and program marketing. Must be available for occasional Friday and Saturday work. This is a full-time position.

Essential Functions

  1. Build and Staff Schedules: Determine needs, create schedules, reserve classrooms, assign staff, and communicate updates.
  2. Hire and Supervise Adjunct Faculty: Manage hiring process, onboarding, training, evaluation, and compliance.
  3. Supervise Program Staff: Assist in hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of staff.
  4. Professional Development: Identify needs and organize training for staff and faculty.
  5. Curriculum Development: Develop or select educational materials in collaboration with staff.
  6. Student Intake: Oversee enrollment, onboarding, and pathways development.
  7. Resource Development: Assist with grant writing and funding opportunities.
  8. Marketing and Public Relations: Develop promotional materials and represent the program publicly.
  9. Leadership Team: Attend meetings, contribute, and set a professional example.
  10. Culture of Belonging: Foster an inclusive environment that values diversity and access.

Marginal Functions

  1. Serve as liaison with community agencies and other college departments.
  2. Maintain inventory and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with grant-funded programs and fund development.
  • Familiarity with distance/hybrid learning.
  • Program planning and group organization skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
  • Effective communication with diverse groups.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Two years of experience in Adult Education/ESL management or coordination.
  • Experience with grants, data systems, and budgets.
  • Experience with non-native English speakers.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education or related field.
  • Additional years of Adult Education experience.
  • Multilingual abilities.
  • Project management experience.
