Job description

Job Description

Assistant Design Manager - Swindon

Excellent opportunity to move from a design consultancy into design management for a rail contractor. Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 basic + car or allowance + package. Location: Swindon. Hybrid working, with a minimum of 3 days a week in Network Rail offices.

Role Description

The Resolute Group is working in partnership with a Tier 1 contractor delivering infrastructure projects across the UK. An opportunity has arisen in their rail division to work under a Design Manager, delivering the CP7 framework in the Wales and Western region for the next 5-10 years.

The role involves managing, coordinating, and integrating rail systems from the design consultancy to the site delivery team. The Design Coordinator acts as a project manager for the design team, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading meetings to ensure the design process is correctly delivered, modifications are recorded, and updates are communicated across systems and stakeholders.
  2. Coordinating with design teams and relevant parties to gather information on interface clashes with third parties.
  3. Monitoring and managing interface management, communicating technical issues from design to delivery teams.
  4. Participating in resolution of technical issues related to system integration.
  5. Conducting design review meetings and drafting minutes.
  6. Following up with stakeholders to ensure milestones are achieved on time.
  7. Ensuring work aligns with client designs, specifications, and contractual terms.

This is a site-based role, working out of site offices at least 3 days a week, with 2 days remote or as required. It offers a great step from consultancy to main contractor, providing more site experience to support chartership.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree qualified, ideally in an engineering subject.
  • Post-graduation experience in a UK-based consultancy, preferably rail-focused (e.g., P-way, signaling, OHL, civil engineering).
