Job description

Our client has experienced significant growth year on year, with offices located across the UK. They aim to be market leaders and are seeking motivated individuals to join their team and contribute to their bright future.

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (40 hours per week)

The Candidate: As an Assistant Design Engineer, you will support Design Engineers by creating draft designs and technical drawings using AutoCAD and design calculation software. You will adhere to company policies and industry standards, contribute to value engineering, and help maintain gross margins as predicted by Tendering Engineers. You will also participate in client meetings and visit sites regularly to deepen your understanding of the utility industry and installation processes.

Duties include:

  • Producing compliant designs in line with customer requirements and industry standards
  • Applying ENA, DNO, & IDNO G81 design standards and recommendations
  • Assisting in processing job-specific cost estimates for variations and contract changes
  • Recording project progress on the design database
  • Following guidance from company policies and BMS
  • Ensuring design work complies with NERS, GIRS & WIRS accreditations
  • Escalating issues promptly to minimize business impact
  • Visiting sites to understand routing, plant, and installation processes
  • Maintaining a record of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to support learning and progression

Essential Experience & Qualities:

  • Willingness to pursue formal qualifications in electrical, gas, or water disciplines
  • Experience with AutoCAD (2D)
  • Attention to detail and drafting accuracy
  • Technical aptitude with understanding of methods and equations behind calculation software
  • Professional, helpful attitude and ability to work under pressure
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the utility industry
  • Willingness to work towards professional status with IET, IGEM, or IoW
  • Ability to identify gaps in technical or soft skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively under guidance
