Job summary

National Gas is seeking an Assistant Design Coordinator to help shape the delivery of engineering solutions across Asset Health projects. You will coordinate design activities from concept to completion, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes.

Hybrid role with regional travel in the East region. You will support governance, manage design reviews, and liaise with engineers, managers and delivery partners to keep momentum across multiple compressor stations and key assets.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting engineering, design, construction or project delivery activities.
• Understanding of engineering design and project delivery processes.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements and governance principles.
• Strong planning, organisation and coordination skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and track multiple activities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Full UK driving licence.

Job description

£48,500 to £57,500 + up to 6% bonus + company car*

Location: East region (Peterborough, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Diss, King's Lynn, Hatton and Bacton)

Working pattern:

Hybrid, with a minimum of 3 days a week working in the office or on site

Travel:

Regular travel across the East region, including our regional hub in Peterborough

Location requirement:

Based within reasonable travelling distance of one of our East region sites

About The Role

Help shape the successful delivery of engineering solutions across major Asset Health projects.

As an Assistant Design Coordinator, you'll support the coordination of design activities from concept through to project completion, helping project and engineering teams deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes.

Why this role matters

Engineering projects rely on effective coordination behind the scenes. In this role, you'll help keep designs moving forward, support governance requirements, and ensure teams have the information they need to achieve project milestones.

Working within Project Delivery, you'll collaborate with engineers, project managers, subject matter experts, and delivery partners, helping to maintain momentum across a varied portfolio of infrastructure projects. Supporting our strategically important East region, you'll play a part in delivering projects across critical gas transmission assets, including seven compressor stations and the Bacton Gas Terminal. It's an excellent opportunity to build your engineering and project delivery expertise while working alongside key technical and corporate teams in a region that is focused on empowering people and making National Gas a great place to work.

What you'll be doing

• Track actions, risks, and technical queries to support project progress
• Maintain communication between engineering teams, project managers, and delivery partners
• Support project delivery during design, construction, and close-out phases
• Identify opportunities to improve and standardise design processes and ways of working

Essential

• Experience supporting engineering, design, construction, or project delivery activities

Desirable

• Experience of Management of Change (MOC) processes
• Experience within utilities, infrastructure, construction, or other asset-intensive industries
• Experience supporting engineering consultants, contractors, or project teams
• Experience coordinating technical meetings and project records
• HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification, in an engineering, construction, or related discipline
