Abbey Hill Academy and College is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Department Lead to join our primary team. You will lead and organise main pathways, teach in a KS2 class and work closely with senior leaders to support SEND students.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status is required.
  • Recent leadership and management experience is essential.
  • Teaching experience in a special school setting is desirable.
  • Extensive experience of working with students with SEND is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with staff and students.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Assistant Principal in ensuring the smooth operation of the upper primary department.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day management and organisation of the upper primary department.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within upper primary classes.
  • Support the development and delivery of a high-quality curriculum that is ambitious and meets learners' needs.
  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and appropriate lessons (KS2).
  • Line manage and appraise identified staff and identify professional development needs.

Abbey Hill Academy & College, an all-through special academy catering for children with a diverse range of needs, is seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated Assistant Department Lead to join our primary team. As Assistant Department Lead, you will play a crucial role in the day-to-day management and organisation of main pathway programmes within our upper primary department. You will be an excellent classroom practitioner, committed to ensuring the educational progress of all students, and will line manage and appraise identified staff. A key aspect of this role will be teaching in a KS2 Primary Class.

  • Support the Assistant Principal in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the upper primary department
  • Take specific responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day management and organisation of the upper primary department
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the upper primary classes
  • Support the development and delivery of a high-quality curriculum that is ambitious and meets the needs of all learners
  • Effectively manage resources allocated to main pathways, including staffing, budgets, and equipment (as appropriate)
  • Act as a reviewer with the arrangements for the appraisal of all identified staff
  • Identify and address the professional development needs of staff within main pathways
  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and appropriate lessons
