Assistant Cost Manager

A national leading consultancy in Milton Keynes has an opening for an Assistant Cost Manager to join their team.

Working on a range of industry-leading schemes, they operate within various sectors, including commercial, education, healthcare, leisure, retail, and residential. The majority of their workload involves refurbishment, with a strong presence in the retail sector.

The role - Assistant Cost Manager

You will join a team of 19 in a collaborative, modern, open-plan office environment.

You will work on a prestigious retail framework account, managing a range of construction projects, primarily fit-outs and refurbishments, from GBP50,000 to multi-million-pound projects.

This role involves fast-paced and quick-turnaround projects.

The office is mainly based in Milton Keynes, with client visits approximately once a week.

Job Objectives: You will assist with:

  • Building professional relationships with clients, acting as an extension of their team
  • Subcontractor tendering and cost review
  • Providing accurate project cost monitoring, forecasting, and reporting to completion within budget
  • Monitoring and managing cost variances and contract cash flow, ensuring timely and correct applications
  • Collaborating with client and contractor teams to deliver project KPIs, including programme performance, cost control, and value engineering
  • Negotiating and finalizing project accounts

The right person - Assistant Cost Manager

You should have some construction qualification and at least 1 year of experience as an Assistant Cost Planner or Assistant Quantity Surveyor.

Candidates from housing, contracting, or commercial backgrounds will also be considered.
