Job summary

Shetland Islands Council in Brae, Shetland, seeks an Assistant Cook to assist in meal preparation at Brae High School. This term-time post is 25 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, plus pro-rata paid holidays.

The temporary role runs until 15 August 2027 and PVG scheme clearance is required before an offer is made. The post is based with the School's catering team under the Catering Supervisor, Marlene Hunter.

• Prepare and cook meals as directed by the Cook-in-Charge and deputise when required.
• Maintain kitchen standards and assist with stock control and meal service.

Assistant Cook - Brae High School - SIC09076

The Assistant Cook is responsible to a Cook-in-Charge or such other officer as may be determined by the authority, for the preparation and cooking of meals. The Assistant Cook must be competent to deputise for the Cook-in Charge as and when required.

• Rate of pay shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.5523 per hour
• This is a Temporary post until 15 August 2027.
• Term Time Part Time post for 25 hours per week, 39 weeks per year plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holidays.
• Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
• A relocation package does not apply to this post
• We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
