Are you into flood risk management and looking for your next exciting opportunity? We are seeking senior flood modellers to join our thriving business and work on notable projects across the UK. If this describes you, we want to hear from you and discuss how we can help develop your career!

We have recently been named as a Delivery Partner for the Environment Agency’s latest framework, aimed at understanding climate change impacts and flood risks in England. Under the 2024 Mapping and Modelling Framework, AtkinsRéalis will provide survey, mapping, modelling, incident management, hydrological, and other professional services to help identify and plan for climate events. This significant program will enhance understanding of climate change effects and help reduce flood risks to communities, including vital response efforts for flooded areas. The framework supports the Environment Agency in making informed investment decisions based on data and evidence.

Due to this and other projects, we have vacancies across the UK for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals in primarily technical roles.

Role: Contribute to and lead hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects.

Expertise: Proficiency in 1D and 2D modelling for rivers, surface water, and coastal areas.

Location: Vacancies across the UK.

AtkinsRéalis is a major engineering, environmental, and design consultancy offering opportunities for talented professionals to work on diverse projects at various scales. Our ongoing flood risk management projects are driven by frameworks for the Environment Agency and local authorities in the UK, as well as major projects like HS2 and Sizewell C. We also work in natural flood management, flood forecasting, flood alleviation, and water resources. Our international work includes projects in the Red Sea economic zone, Middle East developments, and North America, often in collaboration with colleagues in India.

Requirements:

We are hiring Associate Consultants, Engineers, and Modelers for our UK offices, with consideration given to exceptional candidates in other locations. You should have experience delivering flood risk projects focusing on hydraulic modelling, with the confidence to lead technical work and mentor junior team members. Building strong client relationships and collaborative skills are essential.

  • Experience: Extensive experience in flood risk analysis for strategy, planning, development, or design, with a proven track record of project delivery.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in 1D-2D modelling tools like Infoworks ICM, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW/ESTRY, or HEC-RAS; GIS skills with ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS; hydrological assessment experience (FEH, UK hydrology) is desirable.
  • Leadership: Some experience leading technical teams.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make robust decisions based on available data.

Chartered status is valued; support for obtaining professional memberships will be provided.

Desirable but not mandatory: civil engineering design experience related to flood problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct hydraulic modelling, data analysis, GIS, and technical reporting, ensuring quality assurance.
  • Manage and supervise junior resources, support project management, and actively progress projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and provide consistent client service.
  • Support business development, including tendering and stakeholder engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of the Flood Risk Team through active participation in technical networks.

The individual should:

  • Be motivated and committed to technical excellence.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be adaptable and flexible to new challenges.
  • Have good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Pay close attention to detail and maintain high standards.

Training:

We offer development activities, mentorship, and support for professional memberships (ICE, CIWEM, etc.). Opportunities exist to move into client, business, or project management roles. You will be part of our global technical networks, including the Flood Risk Management network, to support your ongoing learning.

Meeting your needs:

Our 'Total Reward' package is flexible and tailored to your lifestyle and career needs, including benefits like flexible holidays, health & wellbeing benefits, and career planning. We support flexible working arrangements and a healthy work-life balance, including home-working options. We also encourage community engagement through our CSR programs and professional networks.
