Location- Warrington, Epsom, Glasgow, Oxford, Peterborough, Bristol, Swansea, Birmingham.

Are you into flood risk management and looking for your next exciting opportunity? We are seeking senior flood modellers to join our thriving business and work on significant projects across the UK. If this describes you, we want to hear from you and discuss how we can help develop your career!

We have recently been named as a Delivery Partner for the Environment Agency’s latest framework, aiming to better understand climate change impacts and flood risks for communities in England. Under the 2024 Mapping and Modelling Framework, AtkinsRéalis will provide survey, mapping, modelling, incident management, hydrological, and other professional services to identify and plan for climate events. This is a major program to help the Environment Agency make informed investment decisions based on data and evidence, reducing flood risks and supporting communities.

Due to this and other projects, we have vacancies across the UK for enthusiastic and ambitious individuals in primarily technical roles.

Role: Contribute to and lead hydraulic and hydrological modelling projects.

Expertise: Proficiency in 1D and 2D modelling for rivers, surface water, and coastal areas.

Location: Vacancies across the UK.

AtkinsRéalis is a leading engineering, environmental, and design consultancy offering opportunities to work on diverse projects at various scales. Our ongoing flood risk management projects include frameworks for the Environment Agency and local authorities in the UK, as well as major projects like HS2 and Sizewell C. We also work internationally on projects in the Red Sea economic zone, Middle East developments, and North America, collaborating globally with colleagues in India.

Requirements:

We are hiring Associate Consultants, Engineers, and Modelers for our UK offices, with consideration given to exceptional candidates elsewhere. You should have experience delivering flood risk projects focusing on hydraulic modelling, with the confidence to lead technical work and mentor junior team members. Building strong client relationships and collaborative skills are essential.

  • Extensive experience in flood risk analysis for strategy, planning, development, or design, with proven project delivery.
  • Proficiency in 1D-2D modelling tools like Infoworks ICM, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW/ESTRY, or HEC-RAS, and GIS software such as ArcGIS, MapInfo, or QGIS. Hydrological assessment experience with FEH and UK hydrology is desirable.
  • Some leadership experience in developing and leading technical teams.
  • Ability to make robust decisions based on available information.

Chartered status is highly valued; we will support you in obtaining or maintaining relevant memberships through mentoring and development. Civil engineering design experience related to flooding is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed technical work including hydraulic modelling, data analysis, GIS, and reporting, ensuring quality standards.
  • Manage and supervise junior staff, support project managers, and actively progress your projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with environmental scientists, engineers, and planners to provide integrated client services.
  • Support business development activities, including tendering, client engagement, and scope management.
  • Contribute to the development of the Flood Risk Team through active participation in technical networks.

The individual should:

  • Be motivated and committed to technical excellence.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration.
  • Be adaptable and open to new challenges.
  • Be well-organized, capable of managing multiple projects, and supportive of team development.
  • Pay close attention to detail, maintaining high standards in work.

Training:

AtkinsRéalis offers comprehensive training and development, supporting professional growth towards Chartered status and beyond, including memberships with ICE, CIWEM, or other relevant institutions. We support your ongoing professional development through mentoring, CPD, and access to global technical networks, including our Flood Risk Management network.
