Opportunity – Assistant Company Secretary (Leading In-House Opportunity).

Summary:
Abacus is recruiting for a leading financial institution to hire an Assistant Company Secretary to join the Governance team in Belfast. Focus:
You will support the Governance team by providing professional, independent advice, oversight, and challenge to ensure compliance with governance codes, legal and regulatory obligations, statutory reporting, rules, regulations, and ethics. Your role will include optimizing governance standards, identifying and mitigating risks, and applying best practices. You will manage the annual Board and sub-committee meeting cycle, including organizing meetings, preparing agendas, collating and distributing papers, monitoring actions, and maintaining records. Additionally, you will prepare Corporate Governance and s172 Statements, ensure timely Companies House filings, and support director appointment processes. You will assist senior stakeholders on matters related to Audit and Risk Committees, considering relevant laws and governance principles. Leading specific projects on behalf of C-level executives or the board will also be part of your responsibilities.

Suitability:
The organization seeks a candidate with the right attitude and commitment to governance, whether you are experienced or at the beginning of your career. A Chartered Secretarial qualification or ongoing governance qualifications are advantageous. Candidates from legal, finance, audit, or consultancy backgrounds with practical governance and compliance experience are encouraged to apply.
