Job description

Assistant Community Education Liaison Officer - Rotherham

Salary: up to £32,500 per annum

22.5 hours per week over 3 days (occasional evening and weekends required)

The main purpose of this role is to support the CELO Team in the development and delivery of the annual CELO plan and to engage with the communities across Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham on a wide range of waste and recycling topics.

Key responsibilities of this role:
  1. Work closely with the CELO, BDR Waste Partnership, and Councils in the development and delivery of waste prevention, re-use, and recycling campaigns.
  2. Deliver the CELO Plan including school visits, development of resources for schools, attendance at roadshows and events, and development and delivery of internal and external communications campaigns (e.g., social media, print media, and in-person events).
  3. The Assistant CELOs will have the responsibility for the development and delivery of key, contract-wide campaigns on topics including Recycle Week, Home Composting, waste reduction, and Love Food Hate Waste.
  4. Engage with the community around the waste treatment facility, assist with complaint mitigation, administer the facility's Corporate Social Responsibility Fund, and conduct site tours.
Essential criteria for the role:
  1. Experience in a communications role involving diverse stakeholders (ideally in waste management or local government) and media communications experience.
  2. Experience in delivering educational programmes.
  3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and simplify complex technical information.
  5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media platforms.
  6. Proactive, able to take initiative, and capable of enhancing the role's profile.
  7. Access to and use of a vehicle.
