Job summary

Busy Bees Nurseries in York is seeking an Assistant Chef to join the kitchen team, preparing nutritious meals that support children’s growth and development. You will assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations, ensuring high food safety standards, and contributing to a caring, educational environment.

You will work under the Chef to manage meals, inventory and general kitchen duties within our Busy Bees nursery, part of a leading UK group focused on early years learning and child wellbeing.

• Leadership experience in early years settings.
• Strong mentoring and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to drive improvements and ensure compliance with kitchen standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare healthy, nutritious meals that meet dietary requirements for children.
• Support the Chef in overseeing kitchen operations and maintaining food safety and hygiene standards.
• Ensure kitchen inventory is well-maintained and assist with ordering and stock management.
• Support meal preparation and assist in the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

About Our Nursery

York is an Ofsted-rated "Outstanding" nursery with a capacity of 120 children. It is a large, purpose-built facility that was fully refurbished in 2017. The nursery offers age-appropriate rooms, all of which have access to outdoor areas, including a unique enclosed woodland walk. Located on Eccles Close in Rawcliffe, the nursery is easily accessible by public transport, with several bus routes serving the area. One of the nearest bus stops is just a few minutes' walk away on the A19. The facility also provides free parking for added convenience.
