Job summary

Healthcare Homes Park House in Peterborough is seeking an Assistant Chef to lead our kitchen team in providing home-cooked meals for 49 residents. The role includes menu planning, stock control, and supporting dietary requirements, with a focus on quality and care in a nursing home setting.

Candidates should have kitchen experience; City & Guilds/NVQ is preferred but training can be provided. The post is 28.5 hours per week at £13.50 per hour, with weekend work included.

Qualifications

• Experience in working in a professional kitchen.
• Good organisational skills and knowledge of kitchen practices.
• Food hygiene knowledge; City and Guilds or NVQ preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with residents to prepare home-cooked meals suitable for various dietary needs.
• Plan weekly menus, manage stock, and control wastage to minimise costs.
• Lead and develop the kitchen team to maintain high standards of service.

  Park House is a care home in Peterborough that provides residential, nursing and dementia care for elderly people living in the local area. The home is set within an old period building and it has a good, friendly atmosphere. The stable core staff team have worked in the home for many years.

  
  

  What would a typical day look like?

  
  

  Liaising with our residents to prepare a variety of home cooked meals in accordance with various allergy and dietary requirements. Writing and planning weekly menus, stock control and ordering as well as keeping wastage to a minimum. Using your creativity for our regular theme nights, where we prepare dishes from around the world. Developing and managing our existing kitchen team.

  
  

  The successful candidate will have experience in working in a professional kitchen, have good organisational skills and knowledge of good kitchen practices and food hygiene standards. City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications are preferred but not essential as they can be provided through our Academy.
