The Opportunity

In this role as Assistant Casualty Underwriter, you would assist in developing, underwriting and managing new and renewal business to deliver on our growth objectives.

You would need to develop strong broker relationships across the region. We would expect regular engagement and professional communication with brokers.

You would be part of the dynamic and ambitious Midlands & South team, reporting to the Casualty Manager.

Our Casualty portfolio includes a range of primary casualty and excess of loss products, covering a broad spectrum of customers, from small commercial to large-listed multi-nationals. The Midlands and South Region encompasses the Midlands, East Anglia, the South-East (excluding London), Wales and the Southwest.

You will be expected to build your technical knowledge with a view to developing underwriting authority. Positive interaction with underwriting management is a key part of the role.

You will be expected to collaborate internally, working closely with regional management, product line management and referral points, sales and distribution, other lines of business, operations, global services and the national underwriting centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in the achievement of growth and casualty objectives - including new business, production and profitability targets.
  • Follow technical underwriting guides and best practices, maintaining accurate underwriting records and data.
  • Develop relationships with key producers.
  • Support the achievement of new business and growth targets by assisting with the development and execution on a pipeline of new opportunities in collaboration with the sales and distribution and underwriting teams.
  • Support a senior underwriter in managing a renewal portfolio, in-line with agreed underwriting strategy and our retention targets.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure best practices and deliver exceptional service.
  • Timely and accurate reporting.
  • Conduct business ethically within Chubb's code of conduct, compliance guidelines, underwriting guidelines, quality and timeliness standards for policy documentation and other service standards.
  • Advocate for the Chubb brand, maintaining an excellent external reputation. Demonstrate behaviours consistent with Chubb's values, ethics, culture, and service standards, both internally and externally.

Knowledge & Experience

  • A-Levels or higher (Degree/ACII or progress towards) preferred but not essential.
  • Some commercial insurance experience and knowledge. Casualty Lines knowledge and experience is an advantage. Willingness to learn and enhance technical knowledge and skills.
  • Analytical, financial analysis skills and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to develop relationships and reputation and a hunger for business development.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Results driven with ability to make own decisions and work on own initiative.
