About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Buyer to join our innovative Paperchase & Fashion Stationery team. As an Assistant Buyer, you will support the Buying Manager in developing, sourcing, and purchasing high-quality, sustainably-focused products for our customers at the best prices.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Supporting, developing, and implementing the Paperchase strategy to meet category and customer objectives.
  2. Collaborating with Design, Technical, and Insight teams to develop and brief new products, packaging, and initiatives to differentiate Tesco from competitors.
  3. Conducting competitor benchmarking by visiting stores and websites to understand how our range compares and identifying gaps and opportunities.
  4. Reviewing existing supplier performance and identifying potential new suppliers to grow joint capabilities sustainably.
  5. Supporting category merchandising colleagues to develop an effective trade plan that appeals to customers.
  6. Working with suppliers, International Sourcing, and Technical teams to ensure product quality and ethical standards are maintained.
  7. Managing category costs and ensuring the price basket is competitive and aligned with budget margins.
  8. Ensuring commercial expenditure is correctly loaded and invoiced on time.
  9. Collaborating with supply chain to optimize routes to market, improve availability, reduce waste, and understand MOQ impacts.
  10. Providing and acting on feedback and maintaining a personal development plan.
  11. Ensuring safety, health, and welfare at work for all colleagues and customers.
  12. Acting with integrity and due diligence in accordance with our Business Code of Conduct.
